"This was a very challenging programme, performed with tremendous vocal power and control, and at the best moments, complete absorption into the music and text. The Arias showed her extraordinary vocal flexibility, colour and power. The Puccini's: "Si, mi chiamano Mimi" was the most convincing, showing wonderful ease and poise. Verdi's "Caro nome" was very impressive technically."
LINDA HIRST
“She is wonderfully expressive and dramatic – and a glorious sound.”

L’AMOUR LAMENT
CREATED _ DIRECTED BY MYRIA IOANNOU AND LUVIE LU
George Wood theatre, London
A piece of Chamber Opera and Dance Theatre - choosing as its focus romantic melancholy and the visual language of vintage film.
Scenographically we use the proscenium stage, its apron and the auditorium with clarity to build layers between the colour - linked personae of our protagonist.
The language of the jacket redolent with lost love transforms into a grey army - an absence turning into an overbearing presence.
The dialing and redialing of the red phone introduces a note of neurosis, obsession and stalking.
TAPE _ LOOP (EXPERIMENTAL THEATRE)
George Wood theatre, London
A collaboration between Actors, Physical Theatre Performers, Theatre Makers, Musicians and Composers.
Tape/Loop constructs a divide in order to instigate a dialogue between two worlds, which are simultaneously separated and linked by a pendulum. It was important to us to create a literal and figurative split. Here, the two sides of the stage stand as proxies for several key binaries we have explored and developed as a company: production and consumption, the abstract and the palpable, movement and text, synthetic and organic sound, the divine and the grotesque. Presenting these stage-worlds invites reflection on their deep inter-relatedness.
Tape/Loop presents a plurality stuck inside itself, revolving inescapably in looped time and sound: any attempts to transform or deviate from the rule of the world only lead to a fresh repetition. All end up returning to the table or the box.
One figure stands outside of this - the guest at the table. Yet in this context knowledge of the repetition serves no transformative purpose. She is the ghost at the banquet, the witness to the slaughter. We have multiple direct and indirect legacies from our filmic starting - point: we work with food, notions of production/consumption, and in montage.
Even as they are separated, these worlds are indelibly linked, and permanently in dialogue.
A Site Specific Project
Foots Cray Meadows, London
We walked backwards into a painful yet fruitful imagery of neurosis and stuckness, by making a pathway to the most atmospheric corners of Wood and Water at Foots Cray Meadows.
Visual imagery and performed action generate strong mood and the visual effect is always haunted by a plausible psychic reality.
The piece has an inherent musicality that is enhanced by actual underscoring at each location.
